Solid Advice For Improving Your Home Security

Your home should be a place of peace and solitude for you and your family. When you go to sleep at night, you want the feeling of security that comes from knowing that your family and house are protected. Home security systems can be an excellent way to keep your family safe!

Some wireless home security systems have additional features such as remote control of home systems. When both parents work full time jobs, this system is convenient for checking on school age children until they can get home. The system can also be used to lock and unlock doors and adjust the temperature level in the home.

Did you know that many cable companies offer home security systems now? This is a great way to get a quality system installed and monitored in your home by someone you can trust. They usually offer very competitive rates with other home security companies as well. You may even get a discount if you have cable service with the same company.

If you want the benefits of owning a big, scary dog without actually having to take care of it, consider buying a "large dog lives here" sign. Intruders are much more likely to avoid your home if they think they'll be attacked for entering the home. This is an inexpensive choice, as well.

If you want to have a dog at home to deter burglars, do not invest in a guard dogs. These dogs are trained to do their job and are not intended to be loving pets. Instead, pick up a dog at your local shelter, get him obedience training and give him all the love you can.

Have sensors installed on all of your windows. This allows you to leave windows open when you are not home, as well as when you are sleeping, without having to worry about an intruder being able to sneak in. They are very inexpensive and can be found at your local department or hardware store.

Always make sure your doors are locked. Every time you open your windows to air out the house, go around and double check the locks in the evening. Many people forget to do this, and the reality is, most burglars gain entry through windows and doors. Lock everything, no matter what time of day it is.

If you move into a house with a home security system already installed, call the company. You might be eligible to get an upgrade, especially if it is an older system. Also check to see if the system is compatible with other providers, so that you can explore all of the options available to you.

Having a good sized dog can make for a great home security system and deterrent to criminals who are considering breaking into your house. Even if you do not have a dog, buying a couple "beware of the dog" signs can be enough to deter people from robbing your house.

If you are going on vacation, don't cancel the delivery of your mail or your newspaper. When you do that, you never know who may stumble across the information that you are going to be away from home. Instead, ask a friend or a family member to help you out.

If someone comes to your door selling items or claims to want to check something out for repairs, ask them to slide you their ID through the mailbox or under the door. Some robbers will come into your home to case it out, and their sales pitch can sound spot on.

Inquire about a home security company's licensing and professional affiliations before hiring them. Having a company that is professionally licensed and affiliated with a highly rated organization helps you to know that you are hiring someone who must uphold a certain level of quality. This means your home and family are safer.

Once your home is broken into, the only way that police will find it is if you have bright, bold numbers outside. Buy reflective numbers or invest in a lighted number box to ensure that they find you quickly so that your home can be cleared out of nefarious criminals.

When going on vacation, leave your car in your driveway. If this is not possible, ask your neighbor if he or she will park in your driveway. If intruders see a car in the driveway, they will assume someone is home. This means they will avoid breaking into your home.

Make sure that all external wiring is hidden quite well, because burglars look for it when they prey on your home. Having exposed wires will make it much easier for a burglar to cut the wires on your alarm system. Talk to the person who installs your system about these concerns.

Ask friends and family you trust to fake breaking into your home. A trusted set of second eyes can give you a new perspective on things you are overlooking on your property that a burglar might use to get inside. Make a list of everything anyone spots or highlights and address these issues.

When it comes to making your home more secure, one obvious place to start is at your front door. If you do not currently have a high-quality lockset on your door, get one installed now. If your lockset does not include a deadbolt, they are inexpensive and a effective way to add security to your exterior doors.

Install inexpensive alarms on your doors and windows. If you cannot afford a full security system, you can find simple door and window personal alarms for women at most major hardware stores. These simple devices have two parts, one on the window or door, and the other on the frame. If the window or door is opened, the pieces are separated, triggering the alarm.

You should now feel much better about how to handle the home security for your home. Use everything you've learned to guide you in the right direction as you make the best decision for your family. You and your family's safety is the key issue here, and you can now start working towards that.
